In case you are wondering, it is too soon to know about the dental care of your child’s teeth, let me tell you that those baby teeth will start to poke through your toddler’s mouth even before you know it. Hence, it’s high time to learn about keeping his/her adorable smile healthy. Generally, adult teeth start taking the place of baby teeth when your child turns six or seven; still, it is essential to keep those teeny-tiny choppers in shape and healthy. Most parents don’t exactly know how much about dental care their little babies need. Sure, they know, their child needs protection from the plague and cavities, but they have no idea how to go about it.
Here are a few tips that can help you keep your child’s beautiful grin healthy.
1. Focus on his/her oral hygiene
In order to protect your baby’s teeth from decaying, clean your baby’s mouth with a germ-free washcloth or moist gauze pad. It is important to do so because, as soon as your baby’s front teeth start to appear, tooth-decay can come along. The four front teeth usually poke through the gums when your baby completes about 6 months in the world, while some have their first tooth until a year or so.
2.Introduce your child to a tooth-brush
As soon as your kid crosses 3 years and the tooth-brush begins to fit in their mouth, hand him/her one by putting on no more than a smear on the tooth-brush. Make sure to brush through their teeth gently in all directions, twice a day (morning and night) or as directed by your dentist. In case your kid wants to explore on his own, supervise this activity to ensure that they do it appropriately.
3. Begin Flossing
Brushing is just the beginning of caring for your child’s teeth. Once your baby’s teeth develop completely, it’s time to show some extra love to them. Begin flossing between the teeth. Teach them how to floss without hurting the gums. Make sure to supervise this activity, too, as they can bleed their gums with harsh flossing.
4. Take them to a dentist
Most parents are unaware of the fact of how important it is to take your children to a dentist – not for treatment but for a general consultation session. Taking your child to a pediatric dentist after the first tooth shows up ensure keeping tooth decay at bay, help parents learn about their child’s dental care, and in identifying his or her fluoride needs. Your little one is growing up quickly, and along with other needs, you need to keep a check on his/her dental needs too. So, take care of his wide, bright grin!
