What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses clear trays, known as aligners, to perfectly straighten your teeth. If your teeth are crowded, crooked or misaligned otherwise, Invisalign can help in applying gentle pressure to the teeth so that they’re more aligned. You’ll feel more confident in your smile, and you won’t need to worry about utilizing traditional metal braces. Invisalign is ideal for most patients who are looking for a quick, easy and inconspicuous way to straighten their teeth.

Why would Invisalign be needed?

Invisalign can work to treat virtually any orthodontic problem you’re experiencing. Whether your teeth are crooked, crowded, misaligned or if you have gaps and spaces, the Invisalign treatment process is beneficial and helps to improve the look of your smile. Having a crowded and crooked smile is more than just a hit to your confidence. When your teeth are misaligned, it can make it difficult or even impossible to keep them properly brushed.

Who’s a candidate for Invisalign?

Teens and adults are often good candidates for Invisalign treatment. The aligner trays used during the course of treatment are removable, so the treatment may not be suitable for younger teens and children who may not commit to replacing the aligners. If you’re eligible for braces, Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional metal brackets and wires. You should be able to commit to wearing your Invisalign for about 22 hours every day in order for treatment to be effective.

What happens during Invisalign treatment?

A complete consultation that includes x-rays, impressions and an exam is necessary to create a personalized treatment plan. We then use the impressions taken to make your first set of Invisalign aligners. You’ll be instructed on how to wear them and remove them to brush, floss and eat. You will need to come back into the office after a few weeks to have a new set of aligners made just for you. Treatment using Invisalign can take anywhere from a few months to a few years depending on the severity of your orthodontic problems. You will be left with a straight, healthy and beautiful smile for life.
