Fluoride Treatments
What are Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride is vital for keeping your teeth healthy and strong. If you’re not getting enough fluoride from the products you’re using or the water you’re drinking, we may recommend special treatments. Children can especially benefit from these added treatments because they are more prone to tooth decay. The treatment takes very little time and is noninvasive.
Why would Fluoride Treatments be needed?
If your teeth are susceptible to decay or if you already have a lot of fillings and cavities, we may recommend fluoride treatments. Children who don’t have the best brushing and eating habits can benefit from these added treatments. You can request fluoride treatments at any time and at any appointment. We may recommend these treatments if we feel you’d benefit from them.
Who’s a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?
Patients of all ages are good candidates for fluoride treatments. They’re most often done on children’s teeth as a way to protect them. However, your age shouldn’t be a factor when it comes to whether or not fluoride treatments are right for you. Fluoride can be added to your teeth at each of your bi-annual dental exams.
What can be expected during Fluoride Treatments?
To begin, we will dry your teeth before applying the fluoride. The liquid fluoride is then brushed onto the teeth carefully. You will be instructed to not eat or drink anything for about 30 minutes. You can have the same treatment applied at each of your dental visits. Fluoride can help to prevent tooth decay, which can help when it comes to preventing the need for fillings, root canals and even full extractions. Having fluoride treatments is not an excuse to forgo regular dental cleanings and at-home care, as this is still important for keeping your smile looking its best.
