Dental X-Rays

Dental X-Rays

What are Dental X-Rays?

A dental x-ray is a detailed image that allows us to see just below the surface of your teeth. In many cases, conditions and problems can’t be seen with a typical dental examination. When this occurs, dental x-rays are needed to help in both diagnosing and creating a treatment plan for our patients. We use high-quality x-ray technology to deliver brilliant image results with minimal radiation.

Why are Dental X-Rays needed?

There may come a time when a dental exam just isn’t sufficient enough to spot every problem. We use x-rays both for preventative care as well as diagnostic care. Some things that an x-ray can show us include:

  • Impacted teeth
  • Infections and abscesses
  • Bone and gum tissue loss
  • Cracks and breaks (especially below the gum line)
  • Problematic restorations
  • Pediatric tooth development

Who Is A Candidate For Dental X Rays

Who is a candidate for Dental X-Rays?

We use minimal amounts of radiation to compose the x-rays we take in our office. Because of this, they are safe for the vast majority of patients coming in for care. We often recommend x-rays at most of your appointments, since they’re helpful in spotting changes that could affect your oral health. If it’s been awhile since your last set of x-rays, we may recommend a full series at your next appointment.

What happens during the Dental X-Ray process?

The procedure will begin by having a lead vest or apron draped over your whole body. This is to protect you from the radiation being used. A tiny device is then placed into the mouth and the x-ray machine is aimed at this device. The x-ray is then taken and am image is shown on our computer screens. The process is repeated until every x-ray has been taken. Dr. Letran will use these x-rays during your examination and appointments to help identify problems and conditions that could affect treatment.
