Dental Bridges
What are Dental Bridges?
A bridge is a type of dental restoration that helps to fill in a space that is missing a tooth. When you’ve lost a tooth, it is important to fill in the space for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Not only will a bridge help to prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place, but it’ll make eating and chewing a lot easier. Bridges are custom-made and look completely realistic.
Why are Dental Bridges needed?
A dental bridge is often needed because you’re missing one or more of your natural teeth. You might not be a candidate for a dental implant, so a bridge is a wonderful alternative. Bridges can help to enhance your smile by filling in gaps where you’re missing teeth. Likewise, a dental bridge is helpful in improving oral functioning and preventing other teeth from becoming crooked.
Who is a candidate for Dental Bridges?
Dr. Letran can perform an exam to determine if a bridge is necessary. You may already have a bridge that is older and showing signs of wear. In this case, the old bridge can be removed and a new one put into place. Patients who aren’t good candidate for dental implants can and should consider having a bridge placed.
What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?
To begin, Dr. Letran will administer an anesthetic to numb the area. The two surrounding teeth will be carefully filed down in order to make room for the new restoration. Once this is done, impressions are taken to be used to make the actual bridge. The new bridge is carefully matched with your existing smile so that you can feel confident in the way that it looks. Your second appointment involves placing the bridge and adjusting its fit. You’ll be able to leave the office with a beautiful new bridge that can last for years or even decades.
