Dental Bonding
What is Dental Bonding?
Bonding is a cosmetic procedure that helps to improve the look of your smile. By using tooth-colored composite resin, we are able to cover areas that are chipped, cracked, broken or spaced. Bonding can last for about 10 years with proper hygiene and care. The procedure is done easily in our office and is relatively noninvasive.
Why is Dental Bonding needed?
If your smile is less than perfect, bonding is a great alternative to many other procedures. It can be helpful when a tooth has chipped or only slightly broken. If you have a gap or space between your teeth, bonding can help to fill in this area for a fuller and healthier-looking smile. Bonding is often done on the front teeth because it is mostly for cosmetic purposes.
Who is a candidate for Dental Bonding?
Dr. Letran will perform an exam to determine if bonding is needed or will be beneficial. The teeth should otherwise be healthy in order to undergo the bonding procedure. For example, if the front teeth are decayed, other procedures may be needed before bonding can be done. Most people who want to have their front teeth bonded can safely have the procedure done.
What happens during Dental Bonding?
The bonding procedure is relatively easy and quick. In most cases, no anesthetic is even required in order to place the bonding material. Dr. Letran will apply a bonding gel to the tooth and then place the carefully selected composite resin onto the area. The material is smoothed into place and detailed so that it looks completely natural. It’s then cured into place so that the material hardens and doesn’t fall away. You can expect your bonding to last for about a decade before it may need to be replaced.
